About Richard

Richard D. Wieth has been painting, drawing and thinking creatively for almost all of his 37 years. Born in 1967 in Chicago, IL he was an only child. He attended Loyola Academy Prep before heading to the University of Denver where he graduated with a BSBA in Marketing with a minor in Graphic Design in 1989.

Richard worked in business for a few years following college and despite achieving success in his work he felt unfulfilled. Following the death of his father in 1990 his friend Ramon Kelley encouraged him to quit his job and paint and that is what he did. Richard studied with Ramon for a few years before he left to find his own voice and style. His mother passed away in 1993 and he attributes the death of his parents as an important influence to his work ethic and his value of all of life’s moments (carpe diem). He incorporates this value of the simple beautiful things in life in his paintings. They tend to be bold, energetic, colorful and positive.

Richard has been a full time artist for over ten years and in that time his work has been included in many juried shows including the Oil Painters of America and the Pastel Society of America. His work has also been recognized with awards including the “Pen and Brush” award from the Samagundi Club in New York. Richard has had solo shows in many places including Aspen, CO; Carmel, CA; and Sun Valley, ID.

Richard’s work has been published in periodicals including Art Talk Magazine, Art of the West, North Light Magazine, and Aspen Visitors Guide. Richard’s work has also been featured in two books on still-life painting, Still-Life in Oil by T. Philcox and Paint! Still-Life by H. Hosegood. Richard’s paintings have also been published on greetings cards and used by Modern Postcard for a national advertising campaign.

Richard’s work is represented by many fine galleries throughout the western United States. Richard’s work is in many private collections in the U.S. and as far away as Japan and Australia.

Richard currently lives with his wife and two children near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They enjoy music, skiing, traveling the world and of course art.

Richard's work has taken on a new dimension as he has been painting the biggest paintings of his career with enthusiastic revues and inclusion to the Grand Hyatt's collection in downtown Denver.
